The Brookhaven, Mississippi, community is mourning the death of Jordan Rushing, 33, who died after a crash on Interstate 55 in Lincoln County on Thursday evening, September 17, 2026.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the collision happened at about 6:30 p.m. as Rushing was traveling southbound on I-55 in a 2019 Toyota RAV4.
Her vehicle collided with a 2022 Freightliner that was parked on the shoulder of the interstate.
Jordan Rushing Dies After I-55 Collision
Rushing was injured in the crash and taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. She was later pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the collision.
The driver of the Freightliner was identified as 36-year-old Nigel Johnson of Rayne, Louisiana. Johnson was not injured in the crash.
The circumstances that led to Rushing’s vehicle striking the parked Freightliner have not been fully explained.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Investigates
The Mississippi Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the fatal collision.
Authorities have not released additional information about what may have caused the crash or whether any other factors contributed to the collision.
